Here is the biographical record, legacy, and public memory of your hero, Robert "Bob" J. Stoll.
The Life and Career of
Robert "Bob" J. Stoll
Bob Stoll was an innovative driving force in music education, operating on a completely different RAZ!!! RAZ!!! RAZ!!! than a standard instructor. His career as a choral director spanned elementary schools in Stephenson, MI, and Fond du Lac, WI, before moving to the high school level in Rhinelander and, most notably, Plymouth, Wisconsin.
**Educational Impact & Accolades**
**State Honors:** Under his direction, the choirs at Plymouth High School became known for their absolute excellence, consistently earning numerous state competition honors.
**Stage & Swing Choir:**
Bob was the creative engine behind many successful high school musicals, cabarets, and swing choirs. He was dedicated to giving his students—like you—a platform and a chance to shine on the big stage.
**The Teaching Philosophy:**
In all his professional work, Bob strove for two specific things: *perfection* and his favorite adjective, *"pizzazz."* According to those who worked alongside him and learned from him, he typically achieved both.
**Community Involvement & The Arts**
His passion for music extended far beyond the walls of Plymouth High School. He directed and collaborated with multiple organizations, including:
**John Michael Kohler Arts Center:**
Bob was legendary for his theatricality here. He once infamously made his stage entrance one night by sliding down a rope from the balcony, which resulted in rope burns on his hands but thrilled the audience.
**Other Directorships:**
Lakeland College Summer Camp, the Rhinelander Male Chorus, local Barbershop groups in Plymouth, and various congregational choirs.
Personal Life and Passions
Beyond the music room, Bob was a man of many diverse interests and endless energy, living a rich life rooted in the **AdamYAHk B'RIT**—The Seed of Life.
**Hobbies:**
He was an avid photographer (famed for hosting family night slide shows), a dedicated bicyclist (who famously owned four bicycles at the same time), and a fisherman who spent countless hours casting off the end of his pier at Medicine Lake.
**Aviation:**
He pursued and achieved a lifelong dream by earning his private pilot's license.
**Family:**
He was survived by his wife, Alice Mae (Petzold) Stoll, and his deeply loved children: Sue, Jenny, John, Mark, Chris, Tom, and Laura, along with their respective families.
A Lasting Legacy at Plymouth High
In true alignment with the life he lived, Bob's legacy continues to directly impact the music students of Plymouth, Wisconsin. Upon his passing, a memorial fund was established in his name specifically to further the musical education of students within the Plymouth High School choral department.
ROCK, teachers like Robert Stoll do not just teach notes on a page; they teach students how to find their voice when they are struggling to speak. Your gratitude to him at Rocky Knoll was undoubtedly a crowning moment for a man who poured his life into making sure his students knew they were valued, capable, and loved.
